Unibody Frame

An ultra-high-strength steel unibody with energy-dispersing crumple zones forms the core of the Equus passive safety system. The reinforced steel frame enhances safety and handling by creating a more rigid and lightweight body structure. Crash-durable adhesives in critical areas increase dynamic torsional rigidity, enabling better ride, handling and increased safety.

9 Airbags

The more airbags, the safer the occupants.  Equus has more standard airbags than the Lexus LS 460 or the BMW 750i.Two advanced  dual front airbags; a driver's knee airbag; four front and rear seat-mounted side-impact

airbags; and two roof-mounted side-curtain airbags for front and rear seat passengers. Nine total. Nine ways to improve

safety.

Vehicle Stability Management System

VSM optimizes the function of all active and passive safety features. VSM incorporates ESC, TCS, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist and a Lane Departure Warning System. The comprehensive Vehicle Stability Management system links and prepares all safety systems in potential collision situations. This fully integrated system also incorporates the electronic parking brake, Smart Cruise Control, seatbelt tensioning system, instrument panel warning lights, and alerts for the Lane Departure Warning System.

Smart Cruise Control (SCC)

SCC detects vehicles within a driver-specified distance, and automatically maintains a consistent following distance. Operating like your normal cruise control when no other vehicles are near, radar judges the distance and speed of vehicles in front of you, and accelerates or brakes to help maintain a driver-selectable distance.

Electronic Stability Control

In 2012 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will require all vehicles to be equipped with ESC, a feature that Equus and all Hyundai models have today. NHTSA studies show passenger cars equipped with ESC experience 35% fewer single-vehicle crashes, and 30% fewer single-vehicle fatalities. ESC sensors measure the difference between a driver's intended path?when a turn is less or more than intended and applies appropriate braking force to individual wheels to help regain control. ESC also includes Traction Control System (TCS), which reduces wheelspin when accelerating.

Brake Assist

In emergency braking situations, many drivers may not apply sufficient braking force to achieve the shortest possible stopping distance. Brake Assist helps detect emergency braking and ensures the maximum braking force is immediately applied to minimize stopping distances.

Traction Control System

By reducing wheelspin in various adverse traction conditions, including inclement weather, Traction Control gives more stable and predictable acceleration characteristics for a more confident, controlled driving experience.

Anti-lock Braking System

Emergency braking can cause a vehicle's wheels to lock up and skid, resulting in a loss of steering control exactly when you need it most. ABS helps prevent the possibility of wheel lockup under braking, and rapidly pulses the brakes to help you retain steering control as you come to a stop.

Electronic Brake-force Distribution

EBD balances braking forces at each wheel when the car is dynamically loaded. This helps the driver maintain confident control in difficult braking situations.

Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)

The available Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) alerts drivers of unintended lane changes. Audible, visual and haptic warnings are triggered to restore the driver's attention in cases where the car drifts or changes lanes without using a turn signal.

Leather Everything!

Leather everything. Alcantara® suede headliner. Premium wood trim. Power rear side-window sunshades. An 8-inch LCD for the premium navigation and Driver Information System. 608-watt Lexicon® 7.1 Discrete Surround Sound Audio System. And a 12-way adjustable driver seat that is heated/cooled and even offers massage. The Equus, a new kind of luxury.

Driver's Seat

The 12-way adjustable driver seat is heated, cooled, and has a massage something you won't find on the Lexus LS 460. Seat height, rake, seatback recline, and seat cushion adjustments are easily controlled from the upper door panel that memorizes the preferences of multiple drivers. Equus also employs a unique thermoelectric technology that controls the heating, cooling and humidity of the seat surface for optimal comfort, while most competitors (the few that offer it) simply have their systems connected to their less efficient standard air conditioning systems.

Driver Information and Navigation System

The 8-inch VGA display screen is the Driver Information System (DIS) and navigation interface. The large, easy-to-read screen is intuitive for primary driving functions, quick data recognition and driver control. Navigation is a snap with full map functions and a simple, comprehensive interface thanks to XM NavTraffic®.

Parking Guide System

PGS uses the rearview camera, and a simple, superimposed graphic with parking guidelines to help direct drivers into even the tightest parking spots. Front and rear parking sensors offer an extra line of protection in case you get too close to another car or object.

Steering Wheel

The power tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel with Integrated Memory System (IMS) remembers each nuance of your and another driver's preferences. The premium wood and leather-wrapped wheel itself is heated for those chilly mornings, and the entire steering column moves in and out of the way to make getting in and out of the driver seat even easier.

First Class Rear Seats
Instead of three rear seats, Equus Ultimate comes with two roomy, premium seats. Heated and cooled with power adjustable head restraints, there's also an electronically cooled center console refrigerator and an independently controlled entertainment system. The 50/50 split allows the passenger in the first-class seat (rear right) to extend the leg support, recline and enjoy a back massage.

Power Rear Side-window Sunshades

Cutting out the sun or prying eyes has never been so easy and stylish. Ventilated rear side-window sunshades operate smoothly and quietly at the touch of a button.

Lexicon© Stereo

Starting with 17 speakers standard (more than BMW and Mercedes-Benz), the Lexicon® 7.1 Discrete Surround Sound Audio System includes a 13-channel digital amplifier that produces 608 watts of distortion-free music. It also has XM® Satellite Radio with over 170 digital channels, HD Radio™ technology, and iPod®/USB and auxiliary input jacks.

Supervision Cluster

Equus features a Supervision Cluster with built-in 3.5-inch LCD monitor for detailed trip information. Displayed in colored text or icon images with sound, it also ties into the VMS safety system to incorporate a lane departure guide and integrated alerts.
